Springfield is very short (less than 5000 yards). The slope and rating are low, but don't let that fool you. There are several hazards to cross, and boasts one of the hardest par 5's in the area. It is completely flat, and very walkable. Golfers who are recovering from medical issues who have been encouraged to walk will find this course a good place to speed their recovery without taxing their stamina.
It's a fun course for senior golfers. Most greens are easily reachable in regulation, and scores tend to be 10 shots lower than at longer golf courses. Week-ends are filled with beginners, couples, and casual golfers. If you're not one of those, you might want to choose a weekday to try the course.
The greens are some of the best in the area. They are generally in excellent condition, and have severe breaks that will challenge any golfer.
The course has a driving range that includes matts as well as a substantial grass tee, a chipping green where you can hit a shot as long as 100 yards, a practice putting green, a chip & putt course, and a miniature golf course. There are currently two pros who give lessons, and there is a summer golf camp for juniors at an unbelievably low price.
This is what I call a blue collar course. Shirts are required, but there are no restrictions on the type of shirt. You will see golfers in tee shirts and jeans.
This is not a golf course you would want to go out of your way to play, but if you're in the area on a weekday, you can have a good time and shoot a good score (or at least a lower one than you're accustomed to shooting).
